Now

I'm a San Francisco-based journalist and editor. Partial to Vladimir Nabokov, who said that "curiosity is insubordination in its purest form," I've utilized my predilection for nosiness, most recently, on political and investigative stories related to the environment, profiles of unlikely environmentalists, and special projects tied to climate change and green living.

I've also freelanced travel stories for the New York Times. For one of those, I think they chose me because I was the only one crazy enough to partake in a two-day cross-country ski trip in Yosemite when I did not really know how to ski and was not in altogether great shape. I've also done the odd piece for "This American Life," and an in-depth look at the Navajo Nation's view of the death penalty for Mother Jones, among other things. My work has appeared in a variety of publications, including Harper's, The Los Angeles Times, NPQ, and Sierra.

With wide-ranging interests and a sense of wonder at the workings of both humans and nature, my stories run the gamut. For a sampling of my work and abilities, take a look at my all-time favorites.
